My career has always followed a path that follows my passion and commitment to my own personal and professional learning growth. I am a lifelong learner.
My counselling journey started over 32 years ago, when I commenced on the career path to supporting individuals and couples with a whole range of emotional and relational issues and included counselling with Relate Cambridge as well as a Counsellor in the University Staff Counselling Service.
My practitioner style is a holistic, creative and reflective approach and brings a wide, rich and diverse range and wealth of experience of issues brought by people with different backgrounds and narratives. I provide a a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space to listen as you explore your thoughts, feelings and behavioural responses to some of the difficulties you are facing and facilitate you in accessing your own resources to resolve this. I will support you creating a supportive environment that is empathic, accepting, impartial and honest.
Many people, as many as 1 in 4 will experience emotional distress or breakdown at some point in their lives, so although it is a frightening and upsetting experience, the aim of therapy is to find a path to a full and integrated recovery. Often the supported learning that can be gained from therapy during a time of crisis can be a positive opportunity-a turning point in a person’s life which can not only help in managing future troubles by be a life-changing experience which can create an even better state of mind and body. Through counselling we can explore and support a better understanding of yourself in relation to the problem and figure out ways to support change and be more resourceful about managing the problem.
My role would be to support and facilitate this process, which can vary for each person in terms of change and works mostly on a short term work, and occasionally more longer term should this be appropriate and will be agreed within the sessions.
I acknowledge that taking the step to work with these personal issues takes courage, the benefits of the journey towards transformation and self-discovery can be rewarding and working through feelings and reactions can be helpful.
